The high demand of bilingual health professionals in many
hospitals and clinics has motivated Spanish-Medical.com to
offer a program focused in helping them to develop their
Spanish skills.
The program takes place in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The city is
known as the “City of Eternal Spring” and it is a favorite spot
of people the world over for its historical interest, its striking
scenery, its colorful life, and its delightful climate.
Spanish-Medical.com's Medical Spanish Program is designed
for beginning, intermediate, and advanced Spanish speakers
and it offers health professionals the opportunity to learn the
Spanish language, medical terminology and acquire cultural
awareness. The program consists of three 50 minute periods
of medical Spanish classes Monday through Friday, and
cultural activities listed in the weekly school schedule.

The course is offered using realistic situations and specialized vocabulary that health professionals need
to have effective communication with Hispanic patients in the course of their daily work. Personalized
questions, grammar, exercises, anatomical diagrams, dialogue completions, role-plays, and other
medical-based activities provide students with numerous elements to apply, in a wide variety of
practical contexts.
The dialogues and situations used refer
to different places such as:
- The hospital
- The pediatrician’s office
- The gynecologist’s office
- The dentist office
- The emergency room
- The medical center
- The laboratory
- The X-ray room
- The rehabilitation clinic
- The cardiologist
Group Spanish Classes
Students are placed in groups equal to their ability and their previous contact with the language. This ensures progress and
camaraderie among classmates. The language class size never exceeds five students. All instruction is provided by a native
speaker and Spanish is the exclusive language of instruction.
Classes are held Monday through Friday and they include:
• Three 50-minute periods daily of Spanish classes for Health Professionals.
• Language studies are supplemented with one of the following two choices:
- Vocabulary and pronunciation class: this is an option for those students with a basic Spanish level.
- Cultural Studies: daily conferences which focus on a wide variety of cultural topics from prehispanic to modern
Mexico. These conferences are offered in Spanish for intermediate and advanced students.
Spanish class and service learning schedules will be given upon arrival.

However, complete beginners have run into frustrations when unable to communicate to their Mexican colleagues during their medical shadowing experience.
